Data centre generator mufflers
Generator muffler insulation for a Perth data centre: three sets wrapped in Rockwool and clad in 316 stainless steel, through a Perth summer.
Generator muffler insulation
Generators on a data centre have to be ready to run at any moment, and the mufflers get very hot when they do. We insulated three sets of generator mufflers in Rockwool and clad them in 316 stainless steel.
The system was designed for heat containment, a safe touch temperature for anyone working near them, and a finish that lasts.
Generator containers are tight to work in at the best of times. Our WA crew did this one through the peak of a Perth summer and still left a clean finish.
Generator muffler insulation protects people as well as the plant. For example, a muffler without insulation can be hot enough to burn anyone who touches it, so a safe touch temperature was part of the design. In addition, 316 stainless steel stands up to heat and weather for many years. Because the work was inside generator containers, the crew planned each set around the tight space.
Our scope
- Three sets of generator mufflers insulated
- Rockwool insulation for heat containment
- 316 stainless steel cladding
- Safe touch temperature protection
