11 storey CBD building
Ten floors of external ductwork, PVC clad outside and up to 2 metres inside, in a live city environment.
External duct insulation over 10 floors
On this 11 storey building in the Melbourne CBD we insulated the external ductwork across 10 floors and finished it in PVC cladding, fully on the outside and up to 2 metres inside, where it can be knocked.
The scope also covered multiple AHUs and reverse cycle heat pumps, and we fully insulated every chilled and heating hot water valve and coupling instead of leaving them bare.
Working floor by floor in a busy city building took close coordination to keep the program and the site safe.
External duct insulation has to keep water out as well as keep energy in, so our crew sealed the PVC cladding at every joint. In addition, cladding up to 2 metres inside protects the duct where people and trolleys can knock it. For example, we insulated the valves and couplings on the chilled and heating water too, because bare fittings are where condensation and heat loss start. As a result, the building's services are protected inside and out.
Our scope
- External ductwork insulation over 10 floors
- Full PVC cladding outside, and up to 2 m inside
- Multiple AHUs and reverse cycle heat pumps
- Every CHW and HHW valve and coupling insulated
